21 Pupils from the 5th Form met up on Farr Field last Saturday, for the first Training Expedition that will contribute towards their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.
They pitched their tents and got on with the business of making supper, as well as making their tents as comfortable as possible. After supper, the pupils were given Navigation and First Aid lessons by Mr Marriage and Miss Coulter in preparation for their walking the following day. The mist came down, the temperature dropped and all of the pupils settled down to a quiet night.
The following day, the pupils set off by 0800 on their routes, that took in 10 miles of the local countryside, from Brewham, to King Alfred’s Tower and beyond. Every single one of the pupils (some nursing sporting injuries) did their absolute best (in perfect conditions) to navigate and carry a significant load throughout the day. They were cheerful, respectful, funny, supportive and generous to each other throughout and they exhibited a healthy and heart-warming team spirit during the day.
Huge thanks must to go to Mr Marriage and Miss Coulter, who helped to ensure the pupils were safe and contributed significantly to their success. But the biggest thanks must go to the boys and girls, who showed the spirit, and positivity, that abound in King’s pupils.
Well done to all who took part and we will now begin preparations for the Practice Expedition in the Easter Term.
