Football

King’s Bruton Senior Boys 1st XI Football team v’s Dauntsey’s Away - Thursday 6th October 2022.

A fantastic footballing performance from the Senior boys in this fixture. From the first minute, they were on the front foot playing the quality of football we are starting to become accustomed to, a high intensity passing game. As the first half went on, they created several good chances and many half chances, as they saw far more of the ball than their opponents, but we did not take the opportunities, and their keeper was rarely tested. Dauntsey’s had a some shots from range in the first half that Sam in goal dealt with well. Frustratingly, Dauntsey’s took the lead against the run of play with a looping shot/cross that bounced in off the far post after 12 minutes. This lead to 5 minutes of pressure from the home team that the King’s boys absorbed well. They regathered their composure and pushed on seeking the equaliser, and were camped out in their half, it was an excellent rear-guard action from Dauntsey’s and they hit us several times on the counter attack, the last of these resulted in their second goal when a long ball from defence was latched onto by their centre forward who slotted it away one on one with our keeper.

The second half started in a similar fashion and with a change around with 25 minutes left, King’s found some new direction and started to look more and more dangerous. Eventually this culminated, after some excellent chances and good saves form the home keeper, in Louis, scoring his first goal for the team in the 78th minute. Despite our excellent play it was too late for us to capitalise on the pressure we had, and Dauntsey’s held on.

There were too many excellent performances throughout the team to mention individually, and when the subs came on they contributed well and made a big difference. Standout performers were Sam in goal, Oliver at centre back, Louis at left back, and then later centre forward, and Jay and Ewan in the centre of midfield. Final Score: Dauntsey’s 2-1. Captains Player of the Match: Ewan. Coaches Player of the Match: Louis.

Hockey

There were further hockey cup matches last week as well as a smaller block with Bryanston on Saturday. The U16s made light work of their round 2 fixture against Bryanston with a 13-0 victory and with Ashtyn being named Player of the Match. The U14 girls were highly unlucky as they contested the Tier 1 county tournament. Leading Millfield 1-0 in game 1, they conceded an equaliser with only two minutes left to draw 1-1. Similarly against King’s Taunton they were well in command before conceding another late goal to draw 2-2. In their final match, a much improved second half could not prevent a good Taunton side from winning 3-1 which meant King’s finished third.

Due to the netball county tournaments on Saturday, King’s fielded some different 1st XI, U15 and U14 teams versus Bryanston. A much changed 1st XI produced a remarkable performance to win 8-1 with Maja being named Player of the Match. The U15s fought hard but lost as Olive showed great leadership to be named Player of the Match. The U14s stepped up and played incredibly well to win 2-0 with Anstice producing another Player of the Match performance.
