Geography

38 pupils from the 4th Form travelled to the Dorset coastline to complete the physical element of their GCSE Geography fieldwork. After an hour and a half on the minibuses, pupils were raring to go by the time we got to Swanage and, after a quick safety briefing, began measuring sediment build-up on each side of the wooden groynes on the beach to investigate whether or not longshore drift was occurring. Pupils worked hard in the sunshine and were rewarded with a well-deserved ice cream break after 2 hours of data collection. We then travelled on to Studland where pupils spent some time exploring the sand dunes and practicing some more fieldwork techniques, all within sight of Old Harry Rocks. The data that pupils collected over the day will be collated and written up over their next few lessons, and they will be required to answer questions on this in their GCSE exams next summer.

I would like to thank the pupils for their enthusiasm and hard work throughout the day.
