Lyon boys, Sam, Tommy &  Freddie raised £700 for The Oddballs Foundation...

To coincide with International Men’s Day, Kieran from the charity The Oddballs Foundation came to speak to the pupils. He gave two separate talks - one for 6th Form and one for 3rd, 4th and 5th Form. All pupils agreed that these talks were very engaging and very interesting. Kieran also presented 5th Form pupils Sam, Tommy and Freddie with a token of appreciation for the fantastic achievement of running, swimming and cycling 2300 km and raising £700 for Oddballs Foundation. Sam and Tommy spoke to the whole School about this in Assembly and the Headmaster congratulated them on the initiative and determination shown in completing this challenge.

Samuel
Last year, after a talk from Oddballs from Callum Cells, I decided I wanted to do a running challenge to help raise money for the Oddballs Foundation. I asked Freddie and Tommy whether they would be happy to help me raise some money and complete my challenge.

Tommy
This challenge consisted of running, cycling, walking and swimming 2300km. You might ask why 2300, we chose this number because this is the number of men who get diagnosed with testicular cancer each year in the UK. We aimed to do this all within 6 months, between November and April.

Freddie
This challenge took us much longer then we expected, and we found it very difficult to balance school work and this challenge as our initial challenge would require each of us to do 30km each, every week for 26 weeks. Whilst this does not sound a lot, this had to be individual runs, walks, bike rides or swims, and not just school sport.

Samuel
We never gave up and were determined to do the distance. 6 months over the original time, and 2300km later. We have finally finished and have raised just less than £700 for such a great charity. The support from everybody was what kept us going, and we would like to thank all of you who have donated.

Thankyou.
