Following their trip to the Western Front WWI Battlefields in Belgium & France, the 3rd Form were tasked with creating a project on any aspect of the war that took their interest. There were no limitations on the facet of the Great War they chose or the format of the project they selected. The resulting submissions have blown us away with their creativity and depth of detail. We’ve had everything: Models of WWI aircraft with accompanying text explaining their development. Oil paintings expressing the destruction and horrors of artillery warfare. Diary entries conveying the reality of trench life. Display boards mapping out the individual story of a pupil’s ancestor who fought and died in the Great War. Indeed, it has been ace to see pupils embrace independent research and thrive when given such autonomy to create something that has piqued their interest. The standard was so high that as a class we (3 West) chose to invite the Headmaster (Mr Radley) and Deputy Head Academic (Mr Cupit) to come and discuss the pupils’ projects 1:1 with each member of 3 West. It was excellent to see dozens of commendations awarded and several Headmaster’s Distinctions across the whole year. This term, pupils have just completed research on women’s suffrage and are now moving onto the rise of fascism in the 20th century – we look forward to lots more ingenuity, industry, and imagination in their work!
