Our recent trip to the MINI factory in Oxford was a great success, providing our A-level Business and DT students with a first-hand look at world-class manufacturing in action. The experience was brilliantly aligned with key curriculum topics, particularly Lean Production and Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory control. Seeing these principles applied in a real-world setting deepened students’ understanding and brought their classroom learning to life.
The tour showcased MINI’s impressive commitment to efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. Students were captivated by the seamless coordination between robotics and human expertise, as well as the precision required for JIT manufacturing. Witnessing how waste is minimised and production optimised reinforced their knowledge in a practical and engaging way.
Another highlight was seeing the new AI controlled factory dog 'Spot' though he was sleeping when we passed him!
