Design and Technology Educational Trips

Sixth Form Design and Technology pupils visited Numatic International in Chard, best known for the Henry vacuum cleaner.

The trip began with a presentation about the company’s history and how it has grown into a worldwide brand and a major manufacturer of cleaning equipment.

Pupils were taken on a tour of the factory, where they observed different stages of the production process, including injection and rotational moulding, assembly, and quality control. This gave a clear view of how design and engineering principles are used in a real working environment.

A highlight of the visit was meeting a former King's Design and Technology pupil and Old Brutonian, Ed Weekes, who is currently completing the third-year of his apprenticeship at Numatic. He spoke about his role within the company and the fantastic opportunities he has experienced during his time there, offering a valuable perspective on pathways into industry.

We were also able to get insight into how companies, like Numatic, turn commitments to sustainability into reality through the development of recycling and energy-efficient systems.

Our thanks go out to the team at Numatic for their time and for providing such a valuable learning experience.
