On Friday 19th September, a select group of 4th, 5th and L6th form pupils attended the University of Oxford open day on a beautiful crisp autumn day. In the morning, pupils explored a wide variety of subject taster lectures and talks, visiting the departments and faculties of interest to them. I have to say that even I was highly tempted by the four-year law degree with a year abroad! In the afternoon, many chose to explore the more central colleges of Oxford, perhaps popping into Blackwell's to discover the cavernous Norrington Room along the way. I must make a special mention of Naomi and Tilly who managed to come away with a sizeable collection of college-branded tote bags! The day was enjoyed by all and provided a real boost to the academic aspirations of these pupils, particularly those in their GCSE years, knowing, as they now do, how critical a set of strong GCSE results is for Oxbridge entry. My thanks go to Dr Brown, who was a huge support on the trip, and to the pupils themselves, for making the most of the day with such enthusiasm - what a brilliant way to kick off the first exeat of term.
