As part of the L6th History of Art coursework pupils have been looking at the study of cave paintings and techniques with reference to the Lascaux Caves in the Dordogne region of France. Pupils researched the pigments and materials that the artists would have used and set about trying to recreate an authentic experience in the art department. They mentioned that the preparation time for carrying out such a task was much longer than they had anticipated and the conditions to work in were also challenging, with the low light and awkward angles. They produced commendable results. The next phase of their coursework will be looking into the birth of civilisation and the art of Mesopotamia.
