Our Head Girl and Head Boy reflect on their time at King's, now that they are moving on...

'Taking on the role of Head Girl was a huge responsibility for me, as to me there were rather large shoes to fill following my predecessors! The role has meant a lot to me, as through being Head Girl, I have been able to strengthen my leadership, teamwork and communication skills; all skills that will prove vital later on in life. Although at first the idea of public speaking at multiple events was very daunting, I have really appreciated being able to do this as I feel I have improved throughout the year. I have also really enjoyed being able to be a role model to the younger years and being someone that they can just come and talk to.

In this final year at King's, I have been able to make some memories that will never be forgotten. In the winter term, Luke and I attended Wells Cathedral School where other Heads of schools from all over the south-west of England attended. I found speaking with the Heads from other schools and finding out how their Prefect systems works, what problems they've come across and how they have dealt with them, very enlightening. In the Easter term, I had the privilege of presenting a gift to Her Majesty The Queen as part of the opening of The Queen Elizabeth Music School. This was truly a special day, and was a day that will not be forgotten.

King's has been a big part of my life; I have made lifelong friends, been able to take advantage of endless opportunities and learn invaluable life lessons. It is going to be sad to leave, however, I feel King's has equipped me with everything I need to be able to move on into the future. I am extremely excited to go onto university and study physiotherapy; where I will be able to put the skills of teamwork, leadership and communication, all of which were developed at King's, into my work.' - Poppy Boyden - Head Girl

'My final year at King’s Bruton has been filled with memorable moments. Some of these include meeting Her Majesty The Queen, finishing A2 exams, and most importantly, Blackford winning the House Cup.

I personally think that the role as Head Boy has played a vital role in my self-development. Not only has the role allowed me to work on my public speaking, but it has also showed me the importance of values such as integrity, loyalty and courage which prove vital for success in any area of life.

After King’s I aim to either join the military or go on to study International Management at University after a well-earned gap year. The future is filled with opportunities for all, and I hope to make the most of the opportunities offered to me as everyone should.

Even though the future seems to be filled with daunting uncertainty for us leavers, we will always be able to look back fondly at our years of education. King’s will remain special to me as it is the very birthplace of many lifelong friendships and the origin of unbreakable brotherhood between all past, present and future Blackfordians.' - Luke Tuckfield - Head Boy
