Wellbeing dog petting for the 3rd Form

Wellbeing 3rd Form

Last Friday, 3rd Form pupils enjoyed a dog petting session on the Prefects' Lawn to support their mental health.

Dogs are a known stress reliever when it comes to mental health and a wonderful way to end a busy week. After talking to a few pupils about how they felt towards dog petting and mental health, the main response was that with their waggy tails and playful natures, dogs lifted everyone’s spirit’s and brought lots of smiles to the pupils faces. King’s Bruton is very keen on making sure that mental health is prioritised within school, and our Deputy Head, Mrs Grant, said  ‘Mental health has been particularly important during COVID, as it has been a period of negativity for many people, so support in school is vital.’ Mental health activities within school from a pupil's point of view are just as beneficial as normal activities, as well as being super enjoyable, especially for dog lovers. So hopefully, dog petting may become a weekly affair at King’s Bruton.

The 3rd Form enjoyed a fun end to their first full week at King's by enjoying some 'dog therapy' on the Memorial Lawn organised by U6th Form Felix, Emily, and Rosie.

Wellesley House and Blackford House kindly brought in their dogs for the 3rd Form to enjoy at the end of a busy, but as ever happy, week which left us all going into the weekend smiling. The 3rd Form enjoyed plenty of fun, whether it be the never-ending cuddles, or the oohing and aahing over Flora the gorgeous 4 month old Golden Retriever. There was plenty of laughter in the air. Not only did the 3rd Form display plenty of smiles, but Mr. Cupit (Deputy Head - Academic) seemed to find his soulmate in Benji the Jack Russell, who he couldn't seem to put down! Nevertheless, the dogs brought great joy to the 3rd Form who are settling in beautifully here at King's.

My thanks go to the owners of the dogs who allowed for such a great afternoon and to the staff who came along to enjoy too.
