We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Sarah Black as Deputy Head, Academic from September 2026.
Sarah has 17 years’ experience teaching history across independent, state and international schools. She is currently Assistant Head (Academic) at Roedean School in Sussex, where she plays a key role in strengthening academic outcomes and fostering a culture of intellectual ambition. She read history at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with an MA (Hons), before serving for 11 years as a Logistics Officer in the Royal Navy.
Following her naval service and wanting to combine her passion for teaching and history, Sarah completed her PGCE and Master’s in Education at Jesus College, Cambridge, and she later undertook a Doctorate in Education at the University of Bath, awarded in 2024. Sarah is married to Edward, a Royal Navy officer, and has two children, both currently at university. Her son James was a pupil at King’s from 2018-2023 so she already has a strong connection to the school. “I am very excited to be returning to the warm community at King’s and am looking forward to building upon the already strong foundation of academic success at the school,” she says.
“I am delighted to have been able to appoint someone of Sarah's calibre to the vital position of Deputy Head, Academic,” says Headmaster, Mr Radley. “We had a very strong field of almost 40 candidates, and Sarah was the standout candidate. She brings with her huge experience, in both the maintained and independent sectors, and in the UK and overseas, and this will be crucial in enabling us to continue to drive our agenda of academic aspiration. Yet she also fully buys into the King's ethos, and values the strength of our community, and I am very much looking forward to welcoming her to the school, and onto the team.”
Congratulations, Sarah.
