Inter-House Girls' Football was an intriguingly close encounter played out on a dry spring afternoon on Farr Field, supported by a fantastic crowd on the sidelines.
Arion vs. Wellesley the opening match was a tight contest, with both teams enjoying attacking spells. Arion began with real drive and energy; led by Lily, Stella, and Eleanor, they used the wings to stretch the play. This pressure told when Stella struck low following a cross from Lily C on the right-hand side. Wellesley dug deep, however, and were rewarded for their persistence in the opposition box. Sybil’s initial shot was swept in by Ava to round off an impressive bit of combination play.
Priory vs. Wellesley the second match saw a dominant display from Priory, who enjoyed the majority of possession in the opposition’s half. Despite having an early goal ruled out for offside, a quality strike from Georgia eventually sealed the victory. A huge congratulations to Wellesley for their work rate and determination; they remained dangerous on the counterattack, with Ava, Lio, Kitty, Elena and Bronte all creating opportunities to level the match.
Priory vs. Arion the final match ended in another win for Priory against Arion. This was a fiercely contested game, as last year’s holders dug in to give Priory a run for their money. Both teams maintained their shape and showcased great patterns of play, showing attacking flair at both ends. Priory eventually dominated the closing stages; Flo delivered a quality cross to Coti, who struck a magnificent volley that looped agonisingly over Ashton in the Arion goal.
The standard of football continues to grow, making for an entertaining afternoon played in great spirits. A huge thank you to everyone for the support on the sidelines. To round off, it was a well-deserved tournament win for Priory, who dominated possession, linked up well, and scored at decisive moments to close out each match.
