On Monday 12^th November the final Chemistry Symposium of 2018 took place.

The symposium started with a talk on the purification, risks and addictive properties of cocaine. Other talks were delivered on mercury poisoning and chelation therapy; the use of evolution in designing molecules, such as biofuels; and cannabinoids. Amelia and Rosie then delivered a fun and fact-filled presentation entitled ‘Why dogs are allergic to chocolate’. The talk informed the audience of the physiological reasons why theobromine in chocolate is lethal to dogs. Many thanks to Sherborne Girls' School for hosting this event and to the other speakers from local schools.
