From Rehearsals to Neverland: Wellesley’s House Play Success
Share
Drama and Theatre Boarding

This year it was Wellesley's turn to create a house play, which was especially exiting as it was Dr Corrigan's first as Housemistress, so, we wanted to set the bar high. Luckily, we have many seasoned actors and performers such as our Upper 6th resident musical theatre lover Grace, who took the directorial lead.

Despite time pressure in combination with all our busy schedules, Wellesley house managed with great success to perform “Peter Pan”. Everyone dedicated time, enthusiasm and confidence. After months of rehearsals and with the participation of every girl in our house, whether behind the scenes or in the spotlight, a magical and funny night was brought together. Although Wellesley may not be the biggest house, what we don’t have in numbers we make up for in energy and in every rehearsal the house was there ready to support and help - even those who aren't keen performers were encouraged to have a go on stage.

With Captain Hook doing the splits, a crocodile on a scooter, Nana the barking dog, a jaunty pirate crew and a gaggle of scruffy looking lost boys, it's safe to say this was no ordinary play. Working together with lots of laughs along the way (and a few on stage) we had lots of fun. A massive shout out to Mrs Masters and all those who made a stage set worthy of Neverland which brought the whole play together. The house play has formed new friendships across all years and contributed top our house pride and community. We can be sure that Wellesley's production of Peter Pan won't be forgotten soon.
