In keeping with the rest of this academic year, it has been a hugely successful Summer Term of sport. Helped by the beautiful and warm weather throughout the course of the term, it has been fantastic to see the engagement of pupils and performance in our core summer term sports of cricket, tennis and athletics.
On the tennis front, it was great to field 9 teams, with the girls' section in particular having a very strong season, which included the U16 girls' reaching the regional final of the National School Sports Magazine competition. Equally, I don't remember a stronger cricket season, as the programme has continued to go from strength to strength. Whilst the boys' 1st XI stole the headlines due to their unbeaten season on the block fixture front, and reaching the quarter final of the National T20 competition, it has been great to see the number of pupils opting to play cricket. This includes a large number of girls which allowed us to field three girls' teams for the first time this year, and from a performance perspective, the girls' 1st XI had a fantastic season, whilst the U15 girls reached the Sisters N Sport National Super 8s final, which is a tremendous achievement. Finally, the King's athletes enjoyed an excellent season which saw huge improvement in performance across the term. It was great to see 25 King's athletes selected to represent the Yeovil Area at the Somerset Championships, and consequently three pupils go on to represent the county at the South West Championships.
As ever, none of this would be possible without the outstanding leadership shown by the respective heads of sport, but mostly to the King's staff who, at a highly pressurised time of the year, continue to go above and beyond to offer our pupils these opportunities on the sports pitches. I wish everyone in the King's community a restful, relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday.
