On Thursday afternoon, the Girls' 1st XI hockey team hosted Cheltenham College for the National Cup 4th round fixture. Cheltenham College, having remained undefeated so far this season, provided tough opposition and contributed to what was a high-quality game of hockey. It was Cheltenham who broke the deadlock in the first half following a well taken penalty corner. However, the King's response was strong as they immediately drew the scores level after an excellent Georgia D drag flick. With the scores level at half time, King's came out very strongly in the second half as Cheltenham found it difficult to outlet through the King's press. The King's pressure finally told when an expertly executed deflection by Lucy B saw King's take the lead for the first time with only seven minutes to go. Despite a couple of nervy Cheltenham penalty corners in the final moments, the King's defence held firm and recorded a very pleasing and impressive 2-1 victory. The team can now look forward to a quarter final versus Canford school before the end of term. A huge well done must go to the whole team for an excellent performance and for showing superb character and execution of a game plan.
