Week 4
Cricket at King's Bruton in week 4, started by hosting the inaugural English Schools Cricket Association U11 Girls County Cup. With eight teams in attendance, Hyde was a hive of activity with some outstanding cricket on display and enjoyed by parents, staff and pupils alike. A huge thank you must go to the grounds staff, marketing team and catering for all their hard work.
On Thursday, the U15As travelled to Taunton School for the first round of the National Schools T20. Taunton took advantage of the first powerplay but King's managed to claw their way back with some accurate bowling and tidy fielding. King's then batted with grit and determination to finish 126-3 off their 20 overs and fell just short of the opposition total. Thursday also saw the 3rd XI in action against Sherborne School. A great spell of bowling from Figgy P-H restricted Sherborne to 155-7 off their 20 overs. Harry L and Will J then put on a 100 run stand for the first wicket to see King's Bruton win by 9 wickets.
Saturday saw block fixtures against Clayesmore School and Sherborne Girls School. The Boys’ 1st XI continued their unbeaten season with a convincing victory on the road to Clayesmore School. Batting first, King’s posted 181-9 off their 30 overs with Oliver G reaching 54 and Ronnie F supporting with 36. King’s then restricted the opposition to 104 all out (Kristian B 4-0-2-14) to win by 77 runs. The 2nd XI also won by a very comfortable margin. Posting 168-5 off 20 overs (Milo M 50 ret), King's later bowled Clayesmore out for 90 to win by 78 runs. The U15As also recorded a notable victory by reaching their 190 total inside 16 overs, for the loss of just 4 wickets. The U14As had to adapt to very difficult pitch conditions and fell marginally short of the oppositions' total in a very close game. The Girls' 1st XI continued their impressive season with a victory against Sherborne School by 5 wickets. Ava O was the pick of the King's attack, before Liv B batted all the way through to see King's comfortably over the line. The Girls' 2nd XI lost by 3 wickets, with Eva K the pick of the King's batters with a well worked 25. The Girls' 3rd XI joined the 1st XI in their victory with a very strong victory by 6 runs.
