The Cricket season got off to a flying start at King's Bruton this week with a block fixture against Monkton Combe School on Saturday.
The 1st XI, featuring debutants Kristian B and Bruce W, got off to a winning start. Winning the toss and electing to bat, King's Bruton posted 305 for 4 (declared) with Bruce W scoring 123 off just 61 balls, ably supported by Oliver G (85) and Ben L (66). King's were then ruthless with the ball, restricting Monkton and taking early wickets resulted in a 195 run victory. Nathan T, George G and Bruce W all taking two wickets apiece.
The Girls 1st XI restricted Monkton to 123-7 off 20 overs with Ava O shining on her King's debut. King's came out on the attack and managed to complete a one wicket victory with 8 balls to spare. Lucy W, the pick of the King's Bruton batters, scoring an unbeaten 53.
The Boys' 2nd XI travelled to Monkton. Batting first, King's posted a very respectable 202 all out off their 25 overs. George W scoring a well worked 41. Dan J then stood up with the ball with a man of the match performance for his 4 wickets for just 9 runs resulting in King's Bruton winning by 105 runs! The Girls' 2nd XI hosted Monkton and elected to bat first. King's posted 229 off their 20 overs and ran out winners by 124 runs.
The U15A boys won by 62 runs. King's posted 135 all out before taking their chances well in the field and restricting Monkton to 73 all out with captain Rafe W leading the way returning with figures of 3 wickets for just 8 runs off his two overs.
The U14As completed the clean sweep of victory's with a 9 wicket victory. Archie G was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3 wickets for 23 runs to dismiss Monkton for 126. King's then reached their total for the loss of just one wicket thanks to some high quality batting from Harry M and Sebby W.
Attention now turns to National Cup competitions for the Boys 1st XI and Girls U15As this week before a highly competitive block fixture against Dauntsey's School on Saturday.
