Ted (L6th, New House)
My name is Ted Hasler and I'm from Wicklow a county in the Southeast of Ireland, here is a small insight into my time at King's so far. I arrived at King's on the morning of the 1st XI first preseason game where we played a friendly against Chalke Valley CC followed by a game the next day against Midsomer Norton CC, which I really enjoyed as I got to know some of the lads over the first few days. It was great to see how good the facilities and grounds at King’s were as well as playing some great cricket.
I had to settle in very quickly as school started on Monday but the staff and students at King’s made this very simple and were very helpful while I was settling in. The first few days of school went very well as I got to start my subjects and meet my teachers and classmates. I found myself very busy over the first few weeks with cricket and hockey training after school, cricket matches on Saturdays as well as House and charity nights throughout the week.
So far, the Cricket 1st XI has had 5 games, and we have won 4 of them so a good start to the season but we can keep improving and I'm especially looking forward to some very challenging fixtures against Millfield School and King’s Taunton when we come back from half term. I have also especially enjoyed the boarding experience in New House, which is something I have never done before. Overall, It's been an incredible few weeks for me and I look to forward to the rest of the Summer term.
Lamar (3rd, New House)
My name is Lamar, and I have recently started at King’s Bruton on exchange from St George’s College, Zimbabwe. I realised as soon as I landed I noticed I was very far from my family and there was no going back so I told myself I shouldn’t be nervous and to try it and I did and I ended up playing 1st XI Cricket and made it into the finals for the Yeovil Area Athletics Championships.
Moving to a new country has been both exciting and challenging for me sometimes. Everything is very different from what I am used to, including the weather and the school system. At first, I felt nervous because I did not know many people and I was worried about fitting in. However, I am trying my best to stay positive and adapt to my new environment.
One thing I have noticed is that King's has been very welcoming. The teachers and students have been kind to me, which has helped me feel more comfortable. There is always someone there to help me.
This experience has taught me to be brave, independent, and open-minded. Although moving countries is not easy, I believe it will help me grow as a person and create a better future for myself.
