Cricket continued its busy start to the term at King’s Bruton this week with both National Cup, showcase and block fixtures taking place.
On Tuesday, the 1st XI Boys’ continued their unbeaten start to the season with a five wicket victory over the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club). Captain, Ronnie F, was awarded the Spirit of Cricket Award by MCC Match Manager Chris Hampshire, for his unbeaten 118 not out. Ronnie was supported well by Bruce W (80) and Oliver G (44 not out) as King’s chased down the 269 target with ten overs remaining.
Also on Tuesday, the Girls’ 1st XI faced Taunton School in the National Schools T20 Cup Round 2. Despite an unbeaten 40 not out from 3rd Form pupil Naomi H, King’s fell just short of the total set by Taunton in the first innings.
On Saturday, the Boys’ U17 Development XI played Warminster School 1st XI. King’s posted 221 for 6 off their 30 overs with Oliver G 64 not out, Oliver F 62 and Kristian B 30 the pick of the batters. King’s then rotated through their bowlers and managed to restrict Warminster to 210 off their allocated overs to win by 11 runs. The U15A/B’s travelled to Downside School, batting first King’s posted 129 for 4 off their 20 overs with a great half century from Oliver A. King’s then bowled very well to restrict Downside to 74 all out to win by 55 runs thanks to three wickets each from Lucy W and Ava O and the U14A Boys also hosted Warminster School. Batting first, King’s posted 136 for 4 off 20 overs with Dan M scoring an unbeaten 50. King’s then restricted well in the field to win by 5 runs.
The Girls’ U15s continued the National success as they travelled to Bristol on Thursday to play Badminton School and Clifton HS in the Sister in Sport National Super 8s. A 43 run victory against Badminton School was followed by an excellent 28 run victory against Clifton to see the U15s progress into Round 3 of the National Super 8s competition.
