King’s Bruton 35mile Ten Tors Teams (x2) & 45mile (x1) ventured onto Dartmoor last weekend for their 3rd and final training expedition before the actual event over the weekend of 9-11 May.

Everyone was hoping that for the final training session the weather would be favourable to the three groups and how lucky they were. Two glorious days of weather meant that walking on Dartmoor was a real pleasure and so rewarding.

Camp skills at Okehampton Camp were good and all teams set off in good spirits at 7am on Saturday morning. The Orange 35mile team headed to Dinger Tor, Great Kneeset and then Kitty Tor before heading down the Western side of Dartmoor calling in at Nodden Gate, Hare Tor & White Barrow before wild camping on Saturday evening. The Yellow 35mile team headed East towards Cosdon Hill and Shilstone Tor before checking in to Postbridge and then heading for Holming Beam. They also camped wild with Dartmoor ponies in close attendance. Both teams walked over 20 miles on Day 1 and were tired having not been to Dartmoor for 6 weeks. Feet and shoulders were sore but spirits were very high and the camaraderie was excellent to see.

On the Sunday both teams followed a shorter version of the Day 1 routes as the navigation skills were on point and feet needed to be protected. Both teams were up at 5am and walking by 6am to mirror the timings on the actual event.

The 45mile team had a productive training session and they to headed West from Okehampton Camp before getting to Postbridge and then wild camping near Fernworthy on Saturday evening. They too suffered with tired limbs and blistered sore feet as the dry moor took no prisoners!

All three teams have worked very hard and are prepared physically and mentally for the Challenge. They are eagerly awaiting the release of the routes on Tuesday 6 May at 0900hrs and there is much preparation to do over the next 7 days!!!! to ensure that all 3 teams complete the challenge on Sunday 11 May.

It has been a pleasure seeing the groups work together in really tough conditions on Dartmoor and the Event now is the icing on top of the cake.
