The Christmas term is always a long term, where towards the end we battle the conditions and the loss of light, however, I am extremely proud of the way in which the King's pupils have approached their sport this term. From a participation perspective, 85% of pupils have represented the school in inter-school fixtures, ranging from girls' hockey, boys' rugby, football, cross-country, netball and badminton.
As ever, the breadth of provision is important to continue to engage our pupils in sport and physical activity. From a performance perspective, it has been a successful term, with both the Boys' U15A rugby team and Girls' Hockey 1st XI embarking on exciting cup runs with the latter reaching the semi-final of the Tier 2 National Cup competition following some very impressive victories versus Dauntsey's, Cheltenham College and Canford. They can now look forward to an away semi-final versus Latymer Upper School next term, whilst the U15A rugby team wait to find out who their Last 16 opponents will be in the Continental Tyres National Schools' Bowl competition.
Final assembly was an opportunity to recognise and mark the achievements of both our teams and individual performances this term and such a celebration demonstrates the quality of sport on display at King's. None of the above would be possible without the dedication, enthusiasm and energy shown by the staff common room who give so much to sport at King's and I am truly grateful for their support.
