The Spring Concert was a vibrant and wide-ranging celebration of music, showcasing a variety of talent across King’s. From the dramatic opening of Pirates of the Caribbean, the Orchestra set a confident tone, later providing sensitive accompaniment for Xander’s poised performance of In diesen heil’gen Hallen from The Magic Flute.
The Military Band brought colour and energy with Aladdin and Italian Festival, while the School Choir delivered an uplifting and well-balanced rendition of You Will Be Found, featuring assured solo contributions from Lottie, Max, and Xander. More intimate moments followed, including a beautifully controlled Death of Ase from the Piano Trio and a delicate performance by the Flute Ensemble.

The concert highlighted impressive ensemble work throughout, from the characterful Saxophone Ensemble to the lively String Ensemble in Holst’s St Paul’s Suite. Choral highlights included a moving performance of Mendelssohn’s anthem Hear My Prayer, with terrific solos from Max and Nella, this was following with a luminous performance of Eric Whitacre’s Glow by the Chamber Choir.
The second half embraced a more contemporary feel, with the Groove Band and Rock Band providing stylish contrast, before the Big Band brought the evening to a close with Street Life, featuring Lottie as the vocalist, and finally the band number Footloose.
The Spring Concert was a huge success, and my congratulations and thanks go to all involved.
