The Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May, at Wells Cathedral. The service included Preces and Responses composed for the Chapel Choir by our regular organist for visiting services, Stephen Bell, alongside Herbert Sumsion’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A, and Psalm 22 sung to a chant by Matthew Camidge.
The anthem, Felix Mendelssohn’s Hear my prayer, provided a fitting highlight of the service, with superb solo contributions from Max and Nella. The choir sang with clarity and musical sensitivity throughout, representing the school with distinction in this iconic setting. Xander also acted as Cantor for the service, as he has done throughout this academic year, and did so with poise.
It was wonderful to see a very full Quire for the service, with many parents and visitors present.
The Summer Term Choral Evensong is always a service of mixed emotions, as it signals the final Chapel Choir visit for seven Upper Sixth Form members of the choir. Thank you to Annabel, Ashtyn, Grace, Jared, Lottie, Lucy and Xander for their sterling contribution to the Chapel Choir over several years - we will miss you next year.
Following the service, the Chapel Choir enjoyed a much-deserved meal at ASK Italian to celebrate their successful year, which included three cathedral visits in addition to services and concerts at King’s. Well done and congratulations to all involved, particularly to our soloists.
