The audience was treated to a wonderfully varied programme, moving seamlessly from iconic orchestral repertoire to contemporary band classics and festive choral works. The concert opened in high spirits with the Orchestra’s buoyant rendition of Strauss Sr.’s Radetsky March, followed by a spellbinding journey through The Magic of Harry Potter and a vibrant performance of Coldplay Classics by the Military Band. Their versatility continued to shine through stylish interpretations of selections from Wicked and the much-loved music from Home Alone. The School Choir performed with charm and energy in Here Comes the Sun and Don’t Stop Me Now, while the Chapel Choir offered a beautifully poised contrast with Bullock’s Give Us the Wings of Faith and a crisp, atmospheric Carol of the Bells. The Chamber Choir delivered moments of true radiance, with a luminous performance of Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque - featuring a serene solo by Lucy B - and a heartfelt rendition of Rutter’s All Bells in Paradise.

Further ensembles added further colour and variety to the programme. The Flute Ensemble’s Echoes of the Ancients showcased elegant blend and phrasing; the Trombone Ensemble brought humour and style in The Schoolroom Daze; and the Saxophone Ensemble provided rhythmic drive in Subway. The Clarinet Ensemble captured the seasonal spirit with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. King’s Rock Band delivered an electric performance of Iron Maiden’s The Trooper, while the Piano Trio offered refinement and delicacy in Tchaikovsky’s Valse de Fleurs. A particular highlight was Maria’s impressive and stylish performance of the first movement of Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor with the String Ensemble. The evening concluded with the infectious energy of the Groove Band and Big Band. Their performances of Song for My FatherSuperstitionAll the Things You Are and a brilliantly upbeat September provided a joyful finale that had the whole audience smiling.

This Winter Concert truly demonstrated the strength and diversity of music at King’s. With such a wide range of ensembles, genres and talent on display, it was an uplifting celebration and a testament to the pupils’ hard work and enthusiasm throughout the term. Sincere thanks must also go to all our peripatetic music teachers, whose dedication, expertise and support underpin the achievements of our young musicians. Huge congratulations to all performers and staff involved for creating such a memorable evening of music.
