The Royal Navy Cadets got a treat as they received a visit from ex RN servicemen to deliver an adrenaline-packed crash course in Maritime Compartment Clearing (MCC) involving Close Quarters Battle (CQB) as they highjacked the entire Maths Block. Cadets used teamwork as they were tasked with 'kicking down doors' and using 'level-10 shock and awe' controlled aggression to neutralise various threats (including their Commanding Officer bursting out of a cupboard screaming at them!), empathy to rescue hostages and diligence to collect intelligence in the heat of the moment. While this was much fun, the reality of the situation began to sink in when faced with the post-action 'courtroom interrogation' of their actions and were challenged on their use of lethal fire power in light of the previously briefed 'Rules of Engagement'. Cadets quickly realised just how challenging real combat can be and developed a new level of respect for serving RN personnel while learning a great deal about themselves and how they cope under stress. An exhausting afternoon.
